This guide should get you through disassembling and reassembling your G43 or K43 rifle. If your rifle does not have the bolt hold-open latch on the bolt carrier, please be patient as I build a guide for those models.
Parts nomenclature:
Preparation:
This is a complete list of tools that I need to disassemble my G/K43′s. You’ll need a small (~6″) crescent wrench (a 9mm wrench works too), a fine flat-tip screwdriver, a very small punch (though a heavy duty paperclip would probably suffice as well), a 1/8″ punch, and a medium flat-tip screwdriver.
Step 1:
Make sure the rifle is unloaded and flip the safety lever to the “safe” position (3 o’clock). This is not only a safety consideration, but the rifle cannot be disassembled with the safety in the “fire” position. If the safety won’t move, operate the bolt to recock the rifle and try again. The safety can not be engaged while the rifle is decocked.
Step 2:
Invert the rifle, press the magazine catch forward, and remove the magazine by rotating it forward and away from the rifle.
Step 3:
Pull the bolt all the way back and depress the locking latch. If the bolt slams forward, you’ve done something wrong. Most likely the bolt just was not far enough back to engage the locking mechanism.
Step 4:
Depress the small plunger at the rear of the receiver and lift the bolt group up and back to remove it from the rifle. Set it aside, we’ll disassemble it later.
Step 5:
Using a small punch, depress the barrel band spring and gently slide the barrel band forward. ***CAUTION*** You could stand to damage the finish on your rifle here, so be careful! Exercise extreme caution when removing the barrel band, especially if it is tight and requires a considerable force to remove. It will pop off the wood suddenly and you’ll leave a nice scratch down the side of the barrel. Just FYI, so be careful.
